Are you constantly plagued with slow computer performance?
Are you a victim of frequent system slow downs or freezes?
If you answered “Yes” to any of the above questions, then its time you started doing something about it. And by something we don’t mean giving a call to your local computer technician. You can do that if you wish… but why waste money on something that you can do YOURSELF. Yes! You heard us right. Resolving slow computer issues is something that you can do on your own fairly easily.
So, this brings us to the question – “Why would an otherwise high-performance computer start to perform poorly or freeze often”?
There could be innumerable reasons for this behavior, but more often than not it is found that computer freezes or poor system performance occur because one or more processes, such as csrss.exe, msmpeng.exe, or cmdagent.exe, consume large amounts of system resources (more than they normally should) in terms of CPU and memory resources. Due to this abnormal behavior on the part of one or more processes, there are few resources left for other essential tasks. The result is you are left staring at an unresponsive computer screen.
The first thing you need to do in this case is to identify which processes are hogging your CPU resources and causing your system to function poorly. To do this, perform the simple steps illustrated below:
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
- Click the Processes tab in the Windows Task Manager window that is displayed.
- Go through the list of currently running processes and identify the process or processes that are consuming huge amounts of CPU resources.
Once you have noted the process(s) that is hogging CPU resources, the next step is to try and identify the program to which these processes are a part of. If you are able to do this, then close that program and simply restart your PC. In case you are not able to identify the program to which the culprit process belongs to then try simply restarting your PC. At times due to temporary problems, an otherwise benign process may hog CPU resources and freeze your computer.
If the issue is not resolved by restarting the PC, then it may require a closer look. You will need to perform the following steps to repair the problem.
Run a malware scan
Are malware processes running on your computer? Malware programs, if left unchecked can cause enormous amounts of damage to your PC, from system slowdowns and freezes to even preventing your computer from booting up. Slow computer performance is just the beginning of worse things to come, so it is imperative that you remove malware before things get out of hand.
Update your Windows files
Outdated files can be another reason why some processes are consuming inappropriate amounts of CPU resources. If you do not regularly update your files, then immediately install the latest Windows updates.
Clean your registry
Over time, your registry becomes cluttered with a lot of junk information. An unclean or unhealthy registry affects your system’s performance directly. So, waste no time and clean your registry to remove all the invalid and redundant entries that are present. To clean your registry, it is recommended that you use a reliable registry cleaner product.
